PLAYLIST for JULY 15, 2009

KEYBOARDS INTERNATIONAL

We’ll start this program with two Italian pianists; Alberto Braida [solo] and
Roberto Magris [trio], followed by Norway’s Helge Lien [trio]. Then American pianist Donald Brown [tentet] pays tribute to Nelson Mandela, whose 91st birthday falls on July 18, followed by guitar/harmonica duo Moreland & Arbuckle giving us a taste of what they’ll be doing at the Ottawa Bluesfest on Saturday and Sunday.

Back to the keyboards and three Dutch pianists, Nico Huijbregts [solo], Michiel Braam [with his Wurli Trio] and the trio of Misha Mengelberg with Ab Baars and Ig Henneman. A historical solo cut from Dave Brubeck, made fifty-one years ago, follows. We stay with American artists as pianist Hank Jones and saxophonist Frank Wess play a couple of numbers, followed by the quartet of organist Joey DeFrancesco.

The climax of our keyboards program will be two fascinating pieces from the exciting American-Japanese partnership of Myra Melford and Satoko Fujii.
