DECEMBER & JANUARY on IN A MELLOW TONE

Firstly I would like to thank each and every one of you who donated during CKCU's recent Funding Drive. Through your generosity, CKCU went beyond its target of $109,000, and In A Mellow Tone achieved its target of $2,400. My sincere thanks to you all.

Attached you will find the December/January schedule for In A Mellow Tone. A lot of the programs are based on recent releases; as each year ends there is a flood of new releases. To make coherent programs out of this avalanche, we'll feature Canadian artists on December 2, European labels on December 9, Big Bands on December 16, vocalists, trombonists and guitarists on January 6 and saxophonists, pianists and blues artists on January 13.

On December 23 I'm doing a program that I have meant to do for years; a study on the Father of Blues Piano, the great Jimmy Yancey. The next week [December 30] I'll look back across the year 2009 and play some of the recordings that pleased me most. The last two programs in January 2010 will be devoted to a prodigous project - recording every published composition of Thelonious Monk- carried out in a brilliant and inspired manner by Alexander von Schlippenbach and his associates.

I hope that you will be able to tune in and enjoy these programs.

Cheers,

Ron.
