PLAYLIST for NOVEMBER 17, 2010

LARKIN’S JAZZ: A Proper box containing the favourite recordings of English poet/critic PHILIP LARKIN offers us the opportunity to enjoy some rarely-heard and beautifully-restored vintage jazz and blues recordings. Philip Larkin is widely regarded as the greatest poet to emerge in Britain in the second half of the twentieth century.
He was also a leading jazz critic and published a collection of his jazz criticism in 1970, called All What Jazz. He once said, "I can live a week without poetry but not a day
without jazz."

Larkin's Jazz was sponsored by the Larkin Society as part of the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of Larkin's death. It is edited by Trevor Tolley, formerly of Carleton University, and John White - both Larkin experts.

We’ll give you a preview of Ottawa multi-instrumentalist Linsey Wellman’s solo alto sax CD, which he’ll be launching at Club SAW tomorrow [November 18].
