February 6 John Kirby: For our first Black History Month program, Co-host Jim Reil reviews the recording career of bassist and bandleader John Kirby.


February 13 February 13: Co-host Ron Steeds celebrates Black History Month with jazz and blues recorded by many of the most outstanding Black jazz and blues artists on February 13 between 1933 and 2004. We'll hear music from sessions led by Earl Hines, Una Mae Carlisle, Lester Young, Ruth Brown,
Roy Eldridge, Ella Fitzgerald, Ike Quebec, Sonny Rollins, Sadik Hakim, Duke Jordan, Miles Davis,
Albert Ayler, Sam Rivers, Jimmy Lyons & Andrew Cyrille, Hamiet Bluiett, Charles Brackeen, Geri Allen, and Jaleel Shaw. All in all, what a great way to celebrate week two of Black History Month!


February 20 Black Women Jazz Instrumentalists: For our third Black History Month program, an historical survey of Black Women Jazz Instrumentalists from the 'twenties onwards.
Will include Lil Armstrong, Lovie Austin, Patti Bown, Pauline Braddy, Vi Burnside,
Una Mae Carlisle, Alice Coltrane, Julia Lee, Melba Liston, Amina Claudine Myers and
Nicole Mitchell. Research and presentation by Co-host Susan Galvin and Ron Sweetman.


February 27 Dudu Pukwana: For our fourth and final Black History Month program, Ron Sweetman will take us through the recording career of the amazing South African alto saxophonist Dudu Pukwana.


March 6 Carla Bley: Our International Women's Day program honours this great pianist, organist,
composer and band-leader, hosted by Ron Sweetman.


March 13 Listen Before You Buy: Recent jazz and blues releases chosen by Ron Sweetman.
Will include guitarists Ken Aldcroft, Ken Hatfield, Dom Minasi & Mike Wheeler,
drummers Nick Fraser, Mack Longpre, Lewis Nash & Alex Riel, blues singers
Willie Buck and Mississippi Heat and trombonist Jay Vonada.


March 20 March 20: Co-host Ron Steeds presents jazz and blues recorded March 20 between
1929 and 2002. Expect to hear Mary Dixon, Hudson-DeLange Orchestra, Duke Ellington,
Count Basie, Tampa Red, Sarah Vaughan, Mal Waldron, Miles Davis, Charles Lloyd,
Elvin Jones, Joanne Brackeen, Borah Bergman, Ralph Peterson Jr., Marcus Belgrave,
Fred Hersch, Michele Rosewoman, and Dave Liebman & Marc Copland, among others.


March 27 Jazz & Blues Birthdays: Ron Sweetman plays recordings by jazz and blues artists
who share his birthday, including Harold Ashby, Leroy Carr, Johnny Copeland,
Robert Junior Lockwood, Pee-Wee Russell, Sarah Vaughan and Ben Webster.
