March 10 Japanese Women Jazz Pianists: Our contribution to International Women’s Day will feature seven Japanese Women Jazz Pianists: Toshiko Akiyoshi, Satoko Fujii, Hiromi, Keiko Matsui, Junko Onishi, Aki Takase and Eri Yamamoto.

March 17 Hakon Kornstad: We’ll focus on the leading Norwegian saxophonist
Hakon Kornstad, using his recordings made between 2000 and 2007 with stellar sidemen such as Barry Guy, Paal Nilssen-Love and Havard Wiik

March 24 Stan Tracey: The iconic English pianist, composer and band-leader’s recordings, from piano duets to Octets to his 20-piece Orchestra, recorded between 1976 and 2006 with sidemen Alan Barnes, Harry Beckett, Malcolm Griffiths,
Peter King, Evan Parker, Alan Skidmore, Art Themen, Keith Tippett and Don Weller.

March 31 Trumpet Extravaganza: Seven trumpeters - Ian Carey, Amy Horvey, Jim Lewis, Leo Wadada Smith, Erik Telford, John Vanore & Eric Vloeimans.

April 7 Listen Before You Buy: Recent jazz and blues releases by

April 14 Bessie Smith: The Empress of the Blues was born on April 15, 1894.
Tonight we play from four Bessie Smith tribute albums by Laverne Baker,
Amina Claudine Myers, Archie Shepp and Dinah Washington.

April 21 Henry Grimes: An update on this great bassist’s recording activities. We’ll play CDs that Henry has made in 2003, 2004, 2007 and 2008,
solo and with Rashied Ali, Roy Campbell, Andrew Cyrille, Hamid Drake, Paul Dunmall, Dennis Gonzalez, David Murray, Marc Ribot and Chad Taylor.

WARNE MARSH & LEE KONITZ. The booking of the Warne Marsh-Lee Konitz Quintet
to play in Copenhagen in December 1975 re-united tenor saxophonist Warne Marsh and alto saxophonist Lee Konitz, two students of pianist Lennie Tristano who had not played together for over twenty years. Everyone was happy with the results as they played standards and compositions by Lee Konitz, Lennie Tristano,
Miles Davis, Charlie Parker and J.S. Bach.

We’ll plug four exciting upcoming events; tomorrow’s concert by the Frank Vignola Trio at the Elmdale House, the March 1 concert by Bela Fleck at Dominion Chalmers United Church, the Lina Allemano/John Geggie March 6 concert at the NAC Fourth Stage, and the Eric Vloeimans March 8 concert at the NAC Fourth Stage.
